Managerial Influence

Just caught 5Live berating Alex Ferguson for not standing up to the excesses of Wayne Rooney and not curbing his own ‘enthusiasm’.
It’s a pity that people like Brian Clough (who had his faults) didn’t influence mangers enough. Total respect for referees was expected, or you didn’t play. Power has shifted somewhat and players have got a bit above themselves.
There are exceptions, of course, real role models like Ryan Giggs, who just gets on with it. No diving, no ‘simulation’, no fake showing of cards, just playing the game to the best of his ability.
Shame there doesn’t appear to be more like him at the top level.
